Ojiya-chijimi [UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, National Important Intangible Cultural Property]
This exquisite fabric is made by finely crushing and connecting high-quality ramie fibers to create a single long thread. The prepared warp threads are then meticulously woven, aligning each patterned weft thread to create the desired design. It is said that 900 hand movements are required to weave just one shaku (approximately 30 cm) of fabric.
The unique character of each color, woven into the stripes of Ojiya-chijimi, adds an elegant touch, while the distinctive "shibo" (crepe texture) created during the final hot water treatment results in an unparalleled masterpiece exuding a refreshing feel. It can be enjoyed by both men and women.
It comes with a matching fan case (linen) and a high-quality paulownia wood box with a cloth lining, making it an ideal gift for someone special.
